“Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy you time” – TG Omori speaks on cost of kidney failure treatment

Music video director TG Omori has spoken about the financial burden of managing kidney failure, saying his experience made him realise the importance of having money during serious health challenges.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Omori said he had spent a huge amount of money on healthcare, particularly dialysis.

He explained that while dialysis costs around ₦50,000 to ₦70,000 per session in some hospitals, he paid between ₦150,000 and ₦200,000 per session at the private facility where he received treatment.

According to him, patients may require up to three dialysis sessions a week, meaning the cost could reach about ₦500,000 weekly and rise to around ₦600,000 when additional tests and medication are required.

Omori said maintaining dialysis for a year while waiting for a transplant could cost about ₦31 million, excluding possible complications and other medical expenses.

He noted that even someone earning ₦1 million monthly could struggle to cover such expenses, stressing the importance of having financial support during major health challenges.

Reflecting on his experience, Omori said money may not necessarily buy happiness, but it can buy a person more time when dealing with a serious health condition.
