?I wouldn?t have married my wife if she were SS or AS? ? Adekunle Gold speaks on genotype compatibility

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has opened up about the importance of genotype compatibility when choosing a partner.

Speaking during a recent conversation on the One54 podcast, the singer whose genotype is SS, said he would not have married his wife, Simi, if she had been SS or AS, stressing that couples should undergo genotype testing before having children.

According to Adekunle Gold, he believes people living with sickle cell should not be discouraged from finding love, but should understand the possible implications of having children with an incompatible genotype.

“I wouldn’t have married my wife if she were SS or AS. She’s AA,” he said.

The singer recalled that genotype testing was one of the first things he and Simi did when they met, noting that the test confirmed that she was AA.

He encouraged couples to take genotype testing seriously before marriage and family planning.
