The Oyo state Chairman the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hon Anthony Sunday Makinde, has stated that the party had been in discussion with All Progressives Congress (APC) for a mutual understanding on the 2027 general elections

Hon Makinde stated this after a meeting of NNPP leaders and membership across the 33 local government areas of the state held in Ibadan on Tuesday.

He said the party had no governorship candidate in Oyo state and the party did not also have a presidential candidate, stressing it was open to negotiation with the candidates of other political parties.

“In Oyo state, our party the NNPP does not have a governorship candidate; even our party doesn’t have a presidential candidate. Though many people know that our principal and boss, our mentor and leader, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is currently the vice presidential candidate of the NDC which makes it look like that is where we are going,” he said.

The NNPP Chairman stressed, “We believe with the involvement of Engineer Sanusi, the discussion between us and the Oyo APC will be sorted out before October 17, 2026”, adding, “our discussion or agreement is not going to be based on monetary or financial but it will be based on the developments and progress of our dear state, Oyo state and our dear country, Nigeria”

He further noted, “it is true that so many political parties are calling on Oyo NNPP for collaboration but the party is yet to agree with any candidate or party.

He stated that one of the parties planning to collaborate with the NNPP was the APC which he said was lucky to have gotten a respected leader, philanthropist and the Okanlomo Oodua, Engineer Dotun Sanusi as a mediator.

Hon Makinde maintained that the agreement between Oyo NNPP and the APC was yet to be sealed ahead of the January and February 2027 general elections.

Speaking further, he said ” But it is unfortunate that the NDC in Oyo state is not accommodating. They are not even relating with us.The election is coming and our members, you can see them in large numbers in this meeting, you see them displaying their voters’ card.

“We are open to make sure that we get somebody who is the best to work with in Oyo state come 2027. The same thing with the presidential election.

“If Kwankwaso is the presidential candidate of the NDC, there will be no argument as to where we are going, but today, he is not the presidential candidate, he is a VP, so the NNPP in the south west is open to back any presidential candidate,” Makinde explained.
