2027: Kaduna PDP move to reconcile candidates, former aspirants

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Kaduna state governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa, has begun moves to reconcile the party’s candidates and former aspirants who contested its primary elections.

Bawa, popularly known as Shehu ABG, convened a meeting with PDP candidates for the National and State Houses of Assembly elections and other aspirants who participated in the party’s recent primaries at his campaign office in Kaduna.

The meeting was aimed at closing ranks within the party and ensuring that those who secured nominations and those who lost out in the primaries work together ahead of the elections.

Bawa urged the participants to put aside their differences and support one another, saying the party’s chances in the 2027 elections would depend on its ability to operate as a united force.

“As we prepare for the general elections, it is important that we set aside our differences and work together for the success of our party. Our collective success hinges on our ability to unite as candidates and as a party towards achieving a common cause,” he said.

He also appealed to aspirants who did not secure the party’s tickets to join the campaign effort, saying their political structures and support bases could contribute to the party’s overall strength.

“We have a vision that would move Kaduna State forward. We also have a responsibility to our party and our constituents. By supporting one another, we can amplify our voices and present a united front to the electorate,” Bawa said.

The governorship candidate also condemned what he described as attacks on opposition political parties, describing such actions as “primitive” and inconsistent with the political progress of the country.

He said political differences should be addressed through democratic engagement rather than actions that could undermine participation and peaceful competition.

The participants at the meeting subsequently committed themselves to collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening the PDP’s campaign and fostering solidarity among its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Those at the meeting included candidates for the House of Representatives and Kaduna State House of Assembly, as well as aspirants who contested the party’s previous primary elections.
