2027 elections: I remain authentic SDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa – Danlami Musa

The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa state Hon. Danlami Musa, has insisted that he remains the authentic governorship candidate of the SDP in Nasarawa state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He disclosed this in a press briefing in Lafia on Wednesday, following what he described as a political gathering held at TAAL Conference Hotel, Lafia, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, that led to emergence of the former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu as governorship candidate of SDP in the state.

According to him, the development has generated numerous calls from party officials, members, supporters and well-wishers seeking clarification on the matter.

He said although he had initially decided not to respond to what he described as a “political jamboree” and an exercise in futility, he was compelled to address the issue in order to set the records straight.

Danlami urged members of the SDP, supporters and well-wishers to remain calm, assuring them that there was no cause for alarm.

He maintained that he possesses substantial documentary evidence to establish his emergence as the governorship candidate of the SDP in Nasarawa state, following a primary election conducted on May 23, 2026, at the SDP state secretariat along Jos road, Lafia.

He said the primary election was conducted in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) duly notified and present to monitor the exercise.

He expressed concern over what he described as contradictory actions by INEC, alleging that the electoral body was “blowing hot and cold from the same mouth” over the party’s governorship candidature.

He said any action that contradicts the outcome of a duly conducted primary election and the provisions of the Electoral Act was liable to be challenged.

He therefore, questioned the basis for replacing the name of Musa Adamu Angba with that of the ex-IGP Adamu, arguing that Angba, to his knowledge, did not participate in the SDP governorship primary election.

Danlami called on SDP members, supporters and stakeholders across Nasarawa state to remain peaceful, firm and steadfast, assuring them that appropriate legal measures would be taken to seek redress in court.
