Yobe ADC washes hands off IPAC meeting, refunds N1 million
The Yobe state chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disclosed that it refunded N1 million allegedly paid to one of its members following a meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on the recently concluded local government elections in the state.
According to the party, the money was deposited into the account of an individual who attended a meeting on September 22, 2026, at the office of the special adviser to the Yobe state government on inter-party sffairs, Hon. Abdu Mamman Zoto.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the ADC state secretary, Mamu Alhaji Muhammad, the party said the individual attended the meeting without authorisation from the party leadership.
The ADC said its disciplinary committee investigated the matter after the leadership became aware of the payment and confirmed that N1 million had been deposited into the individual’s account.
The party said it subsequently compelled the individual to return the money and directed that the full amount be refunded to the Yobe state government.
It said the refund was supported by State Government Treasury Receipt No. 183689 and Access Bank Teller Reference No. 165262755310490, both dated October 2, 2026.
The ADC said it condemned what it described as acts of “inducement, bribery or corruption,” stressing that it remained committed to integrity and the protection of the public interest.
The party also said disciplinary measures had been taken against those involved.
However, the party criticised the conduct of the recently concluded local government elections in Yobe, alleging that the process did not meet what it described as the basic requirements of democracy and due process.
The party further said it had dissociated itself from the IPAC meeting and any similar meetings, directing that future correspondence with the ADC should be channelled through its state secretariat and addressed to the state chairman, Hon. Umar Alhaji Kalli.
