Will Control Population Growth: Pakistan Has A New Role For Field Marshal Asim Munir
Pakistan is assigning Field Marshal Asim Munir a significant role in addressing the country’s escalating population issues, as previous efforts to manage growth have not succeeded.
Pakistan is planning a new role for its Field Marshal Asim Munir, which is to hand him over the responsibility to control the country’s rising population. The government is now pinning hopes on the field marshal to help play a role in curbing the population growth rate after the country failed to control it in the last three years.
Pakistan Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal said in a joint meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services and the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights, Dawn reported.
The meeting was chaired by Pakistani Senators Amir Waliuddin Chishti and Samina Mumtaz Zehri to discuss Pakistan’s growing population and the need for coordinated policy reforms.
The Senate of Pakistan in a post on X said, “Joint Meeting of Senate Standing Committees on #NationalHealth Services and #HumanRights, co-chaired by Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti & Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri stresses on permanent #LegalFramework for national #population management. #PopulationManagement #Health #Pakistan”
Pakistan is the world’s fourth largest populous country and is projected to become the fourth by 2030, surpassing Indonesia.
The current population of Pakistan is approximately 25.9 crores (259 million), while the population of Indonesia is 28.7 crores — approximately 287 – 288 million.
Speaking on the matter, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal informed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif constituted a high-level committee on population management of which Asim Munir is also a part.
“The government is treating this issue with the highest priority and important policy decisions are being taken at every level,” Mustafa Kamal. He further informed that other ministers were also members of the committee.
Kamal said that in order to control population, both government and public will have to come together.
If Pakistan’s population continues to increase with the pace it is rising today, soon, the country will leave behind Indonesia.
