The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming he is lobbying to become Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, stressing that he does not require a formal position within the campaign structure to deliver electoral success for the President in Rivers State and the FCT.

Recent reports had suggested that Wike was among party leaders and government officials being considered for, or actively seeking, the DG role.

However, in a statement issued Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the claims as “false.”

“I have not discussed leadership or membership of the Presidential Campaign Council with anyone,” Wike said.

He explained that he is currently outside Nigeria, taking time to rest after weeks of project commissioning, inspections, and flag-offs.

“When I return, our focus will remain on delivering our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and boosting his electoral fortunes in Rivers State and the FCT,” he added.

Wike emphasized that his commitment to Tinubu’s success is unwavering: “I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council to contribute my quota by ensuring he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT.”
