We’ve Completed 414 Roads, Installed 10,000 Solar Streetlights—Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, says his administration has completed 414 roads and installed more than 10,000 solar-powered streetlights across the state.

Otti disclosed this on Friday at the Meet the Governor Series hosted by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce in Lagos, where he outlined his administration’s achievements and vision for repositioning Abia as a hub for enterprise, industrialisation and sustainable growth.

The governor said that in the past 39 months, his administration had focused on reforms aimed at removing barriers to productivity, strengthening fiscal governance and expanding infrastructure across the state.

He disclosed that 80 percent of the state’s N1.016tn 2026 budget was allocated to capital projects, describing the move as part of efforts to build a strong foundation for economic growth.

According to him, the administration has completed 414 road projects, with another 82 ongoing, while more than 10,000 solar-powered streetlights have been installed.

Otti also said his administration had strengthened the healthcare sector through a 15 percent budgetary allocation, while Abia ranked fourth nationally in fiscal transparency.

The governor said the state had identified seven priority sectors to attract investments and drive economic prosperity.

He listed them as agribusiness and agro-processing; trade and markets; creative and digital economy; manufacturing and industrialisation; SME growth; inclusive finance; and diaspora investment and innovation.

Otti said Abia was ready for investors, highlighting opportunities in livestock, cashew, cocoa and rubber under the agribusiness sector, as well as prospects in garments, ceramics and leather manufacturing.

He also identified the proposed Azumini-Obeaku Seaport, industrial park and medical city as major projects that would further position the state as a trade and logistics gateway.

“In the past 39 months, our administration has focused on reforms that remove barriers to productivity, strengthen fiscal governance, and expand infrastructure.

“With 80 percent of our N1.016tn 2026 budget dedicated to capital projects, we are building a strong foundation for growth in Nigeria,” he said.

The governor added, “Abia is rising. Abia is ready. Abia is open for business.”
