'We Never Have, Never Will': China Hits Back At Trump's Election 'Meddling' Charges

President Trump accused China of executing a massive breach of US election data, allegedly acquiring 220 million voter files during the 2020 election.

China has denied US President Donald Trump’s claims that it interfered in the 2020 elections, saying it “has never and will never interfere” in the presidential elections and that the outcome is decided by American voters. A spokesperson for China’s Embassy refuted the claims, tellinf Al Jazeera that the country adheres to “the principle of non-interference in others’ internal affairs”.

“The US election is an internal matter of the US. Its outcome is determined by the votes of the American people,” the statement said. “China has never and will never interfere in the presidential elections of the US.”

Trump on Thursday accused ‌China of carrying out what is believed to be “the largest compromise of election data in history” during the 2020 election cycle. In an address to the nation, Trump claimed that the compromise resulted in ⁠China’s acquisition of 220 million US voter files.

“Tens of millions of voters’ data in 18 states have been bought, stolen, or hacked by China,” he claimed. “I am announcing the immediate declassification and release of critical intelligence revealing shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure,” he said in his address.

The Republican president claimed that hundreds of millions of US voter files are now in the hands of foreign governments.

“Today, I’m asking the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Justice, the FBI, and the CIA to investigate how and why such crucial information was hidden, to fire those involved in the cover-up, and to file criminal charges, if appropriate, against those responsible,” he stated.

Notably, an unclassified 2021 US intelligence community assessment found no indications that ‌any ⁠foreign actor attempted or succeeded in altering “any technical aspect” of the 2020 presidential election vote, including voter registrations, ballots, tabulations or results.
