UNIOSUN Wins $60,000 Grant for Mosquito Surveillance Research

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has secured a $60,000 research grant from the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit 3 (NAMRU-3) to advance mosquito surveillance and research in selected Nigerian states.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, announced that the grant was awarded to Dr. Dapo Adeogun of the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, with support from other vector experts.

The project aims to generate scientific data that will strengthen efforts to control vector-borne diseases across the country.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye congratulated Adeogun and his team, commending their commitment to research that addresses pressing public health challenges.

He noted that the grant enhances UNIOSUN’s growing profile as a research-driven institution with increasing international visibility.

Adebooye encouraged other researchers to pursue competitive local and international funding opportunities, stressing that such projects not only expand the university’s research portfolio but also contribute to solving societal problems.

The university management described the award as further proof of UNIOSUN’s dedication to producing scientific evidence that supports public health initiatives and strengthens Nigeria’s fight against mosquito-borne diseases.
