Troops Uncover and Dispose of Explosive Device in Sambisa Forest
Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully discovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists in Borno State.
The device was uncovered on Tuesday, July 15, 2026, at about 9:50 a.m. during a fighting patrol in the Dagari area of Sambisa Forest, Bama Local Government Area.
Security expert Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development on X, said the IED was buried in a farming area, apparently intended to target troops or civilians, including farmers returning to their farmlands.
According to him, the troops promptly secured the location and disposed of the explosive device on site following standard explosive ordnance disposal procedures, neutralising the threat without any incident.
“The operation forms part of ongoing clearance and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to make liberated communities and farming areas safe for civilian activities,” Zagazola added.
He noted that troops have intensified aggressive patrols and route clearance operations across the North-East to detect and neutralise explosive threats planted by terrorists.
This latest success highlights the military’s continued efforts to secure the region and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons and farming activities in previously affected areas.
