Troops recover RPG bombs, motorcycles after foiled terrorist ambush in Borno

Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

In a statement released, the acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni said the operation took place on Monday, September 7.

Goni disclosed that the troops, while conducting a routine patrol along the axis, encountered the terrorists and responded decisively, forcing the terrorists to withdraw from the area in disarray.

He added that reinforcement was subsequently deployed, enabling the troops to clear the ambush site and conduct further exploitation of the surrounding area.

“During the operation, troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps assessed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations.

Items recovered include one motorcycle, bicycles, one magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade bombs,” the statement reads in part

The military spokesman said there were no casualties among their own troops during the encounter although some military vehicles sustained damage as a result of the engagement.

He stated,

“Notwithstanding the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission.”

Goni noted that the operation underscores the resolve and fighting spirit of troops of Operation Hadin Kai to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the theatre.
