Tinubu Approves Conversion Of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa To Specialised Mining University
President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, into the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology, Nasarawa, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s technical education and solid minerals sector.
The approval, announced in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Saturday, is part of the administration’s drive to develop skilled manpower and harness the country’s vast mineral resources for economic growth.
According to the Presidency, the specialised institution will focus on training professionals in mining, engineering, metallurgy, mineral processing, manufacturing and other emerging technologies critical to Nigeria’s industrial development.

The decision followed a proposal by Senator Ahmed Wadada, who argued that the university would serve as a centre of excellence for research, innovation and advanced technical education, while supporting the country’s industrialisation agenda.
President Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other relevant agencies to commence the implementation process for the institution’s transition.
The Presidency said the approval reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding access to specialised education, promoting innovation and creating employment opportunities through strategic investments in the education sector.
