Terrorism: Kaduna Police recovers pump-action rifle, 9 fabricated guns, 2 vehicles, others

The Kaduna state Police command has recovered one pump-action rifle, nine fabricated firearms, two stolen vehicles and 332 pieces of suspected counterfeit $100 notes in separate operations across the state.

The command also recovered two cartridges and a motorcycle abandoned by suspected bandits during an encounter with security personnel in the Kidandan area of Giwa Local Government Area (LGA).

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the operation followed information received on August 31, 2026, that armed bandits were disturbing farmers in the area.

He said the DPO Kidandan mobilised Police Mobile Force personnel attached to APV Kaya and members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) to the area. According to him, the bandits opened fire after sighting the security team but fled into the bush following the response of the personnel, abandoning the rifle, cartridges and motorcycle.

Hassan said Police operatives also recovered nine fabricated firearms around the Maraban Jos axis after mounting roadblocks based on intelligence about the movement of suspected gunrunners. He said the suspects abandoned the firearms and fled, while efforts were ongoing to arrest them.

The command further said three suspects—Hashiru Ibrahim, Mohammed Ibrahim and Umar Hassan—were arrested on September 2 at Panteka, Kurmin Mashi, while allegedly attempting to sell a black GMK Jeep worth about N70 million for N4 million. The vehicle, which was reportedly being prepared for dismantling and sale in parts, was allegedly stolen from Abeokuta, Ogun State, where Hashiru worked as a driver for a Chinese company.

In another operation, Police intercepted a white Toyota Hilux allegedly stolen from Agadez, Niger Republic. The vehicle was recovered after its chassis number was confirmed to correspond with that of the reported stolen vehicle, while one Abubakar Abdullahi, found in possession of it, was arrested.

The command also arrested Kabir Yusuf, of Barnawa, Kaduna, following intelligence that he was in possession of counterfeit US currency. Hassan said a search led to the recovery of 332 pieces of suspected counterfeit $100 notes and six counterfeit N1,000 notes.

According to the PPRO, Yusuf confessed during preliminary investigation that he obtained the counterfeit currencies from one Sahibu Ruhan of Kano State, who is currently at large.

The Commissioner of Police commended members of the public for providing timely and actionable information, urging residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the Police and other security agencies.
