Rivers: Unity among Christian denominations key to peace – Fubara

Rivers state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has described unity among Christian denominations as vital to peace, tolerance and development in the state.

Governor Fubara stated this during the 10th Spiritual Advisory Council Meeting and Annual Unity Service of Christ Church, Port Harcourt, Sunday.

Represented by his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Governor Fubara restated the government’s partnership with the church and urged continued prayers for the state, its leaders and communities.

‎The state chief executive commended the churches for sustaining the annual unity service, saying their coming together demonstrated that despite denominational differences, Christians are “one in Christ” and share a common responsibility to promote the welfare of the people.

In his sermon, the Primate and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Ekpenyong Akpanika, described divine backing and security as the greatest advantage in life.

‎Drawing from Genesis 26:1–13, he cited Isaac, who prospered despite famine because he obeyed God’s instruction to remain in the land.

‎He urged Christians not to fear Nigeria’s economic and political challenges, stating that God’s blessing is not determined by prevailing circumstances.

‎Akpanika prayed for God’s protection, prosperity and grace upon the church and the faithful, while urging them to remain intimate with God and submit themselves fully to Him.

‎Earlier, the Resident Minister of Christ Church, Port Harcourt, Venerable Amos Chijioke, had called for stronger unity and strategic collaboration among Christian leaders to enable the church to remain a pillar of truth, justice and hope in Nigeria.
