Residents Rescue 7-Year-Old Girl From Alleged Torture By Mother
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, for allegedly subjecting her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, to severe physical abuse in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Awada-Obosi area on Sunday, September 13, 2026, after residents and security personnel of the Ibollo community intervened and rescued the girl.
The child was said to have sustained serious injuries, including wounds allegedly inflicted with a hot knife.
Following the intervention, the suspect was arrested and handed over to the police for investigation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, has also begun discussions with the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to ensure that the victim receives urgent medical attention and necessary protection.
The command commended the Ibollo community security personnel and residents for their prompt intervention, saying their action prevented the child from suffering further harm.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the investigation would be thorough and professional.
Ikenga said, “The welfare, safety and best interests of the child remain paramount.”
He added that the command would continue to work with relevant agencies to protect vulnerable persons and ensure that anyone found responsible was made to face the law.
