Police Pay N2.3bn to Families of 2,971 Deceased Officers

The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed a total of N2.3 billion in benefits to the families and next-of-kin of 2,971 officers who died while in service.

The payments were made under the Force’s Group Life Assurance and related welfare schemes as part of ongoing efforts to support the dependents of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Officials described the disbursement as a demonstration of the police leadership’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their families. The funds are intended to help ease the financial burdens faced by the bereaved relatives.

In line with previous similar exercises, beneficiaries have been advised to use the money judiciously for the upkeep and long-term support of the families left behind.

The Force has repeatedly stressed that while no amount of money can fully compensate for the loss of a loved one, the payments form part of its obligation to honour the sacrifices of fallen officers.

This latest payout continues a series of welfare interventions aimed at clearing outstanding claims and ensuring timely support for the families of deceased personnel across the country.
