Police pay ₦89.2m insurance claims to families of 157 deceased officers

The Lagos State Police Command have presented cheques, totalling ₦89,201,523.07, to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers who served under the Command.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos state, CP Tijani Fatai, presented the 157 cheques to the beneficiaries on Friday at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

The payments represent claims under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force, designed to provide financial support to families of officers who lost their lives in the course of service.

Fatai said although the financial assistance could not replace the lives of the deceased officers, the gesture demonstrated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the welfare of serving personnel and families of fallen officers.

He sympathised with the beneficiaries, urging them to make judicious use of the funds, particularly for the education and welfare of the children and other dependents left behind by the deceased officers.

The CP also assured serving personnel that the welfare of officers and their families remained a priority of the Force.

He said the Command would continue to facilitate the prompt processing of legitimate claims due to families of deceased personnel, adding that the financial support, though unable to replace lost loved ones, would provide some relief to the affected families.
