The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi, has said hunger and worsening economic hardship had become the greatest form of harassment confronting Nigerians, saying that citizens have had enough of the nation’s declining living conditions.
Obi made the statement on Friday while speaking with journalists during the burial of late Okaji Simon Okorie Abaa, the father of the former House of Representatives’ member, representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Linus Okorie in Ebonyi state.
Responding to concerns that opposition supporters could face harassment and intimidation during the 2027 general elections, Obi said every Nigerian was already a victim of hardship caused by the country’s economic crisis.
He said, “For me, every Nigerian is already being harassed, not just my supporters. Hunger is harassing everybody. The worsening economic situation is affecting everyone. Go to any village and you will see that people are suffering. It is time for Nigerians to tell those governing us that enough is enough.”
The former Anambra state governor lamented the rising level of poverty across the country, saying the economic situation had continued to deteriorate under the present administration.
In the 2027 elections, Obi urged Nigerians to believe in the power of their votes rather than focusing on the electoral umpire.
