Nigerian Army offers free medical services to pregnant women, communities in Kwara

The Nigeria Army on Friday took its free medical outreach to Erin- Ile in Oyun local government area of Kwara state, marking the continuation of its week-long activities aimed at promoting civil- military cooperation in the state.

The team, comprising personnel from the Army National Headquarters, Abuja, and the 22 Armoured Brigade in Kwara, had flagged -off the outreach in Oke- Ode, in Ifelodun local government area, covering about 400 persons  before reaching out to Omu- Aran on Thursday where more than 300 also benefited.

The residents of Oke- Ode, one of the communities worst hit by the activities of bandits, as well as those taking refuge in the benefiting communities, trooped out to access the free services.

During the outreach, school children from the ages of 10 downward, were de-wormed while pregnant women got free mosquito insecticide treated nets in addition to free drugs.

Many elderly people too benefited from free dental care and a series of other medical care.

The team also offered free consultations, laboratory investigation where cases were diagnosed and treated immediately with free medication, counselling and medical education.

No fewer than1,000 persons have so far benefited from the outreach since it was flagged-off on Wednesday, September 22, 2026.

Speaking at Omu- Aran, the Chief of Army Staff,  Lt-Gen. Waheed Shuaibu, represented by the Head, Civil/ Military Affairs, Army Headquarters, Abuja,  Maj.-Gen. Musa Etsu- Ndagi, said the outreach  was one of “the non- kinetic activities” of the military in tackling insecurity.

He said it was aimed at promoting civil- military relationships by bringing the army closer to the communities.

The COAS urged the benefiting communities to always provide useful information to the various army formations, including the newly established Battalion in Omu- Aran and the new Army Division in llorin dubbed Operation Savana Shield, to curb the activities of bandits and other criminal elements

In his remarks, the Acting Director, Information Management, Army Headquarters, DCMA, Major Ojo Adenegan, urged the people of the benefiting communities to take advantage of the medical outreach to reduce their cost of medical expenses, and also build and sustain mutual trust and confidence between the military and the civilian population.
