Nigeria @66: Education minister celebrates resilience, unity, renewed hope
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for renewed commitment to national unity, patriotism and sustainable development.
Alausa, in an Independence Day message issued on Thursday in Abuja, said the anniversary provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, celebrate their shared identity and renew their collective commitment to building a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.
He emphasised that education remained central to Nigeria’s future, describing it as fundamental to human capital development, social mobility, innovation and sustainable national development.
The minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and continued support for the education sector and human capital development.
According to him, the Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, is advancing reforms and investments through the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) to improve the country’s education system.
He said the initiative was focused on expanding access to education, strengthening educational institutions, supporting learners, improving teacher quality, promoting technical and vocational education, and equipping young Nigerians with relevant knowledge and skills.
“Much work remains to be done. We must continue to strengthen foundational learning, improve teacher development, expand skills and technical education, promote research and innovation, and provide safe and conducive learning environments where every Nigerian child has the opportunity to learn, develop and fulfil their potential,” he said.
Alausa reaffirmed his commitment to working with governments at all levels, teachers, parents, students, education stakeholders and development partners to build an accessible, equitable, innovative and responsive education system.
He also urged Nigerian youths to remain hopeful, disciplined and committed to excellence, noting that their knowledge, character, creativity and skills were essential to building the country.
“You are not only the leaders of tomorrow; you are important participants in shaping the Nigeria of today,” he stated.
The minister called on Nigerians to uphold unity, patriotism, service and collective responsibility, stressing that education remained one of the strongest foundations for achieving the nation’s aspirations.
He concluded by saluting the courage and resilience of Nigerians and praying for God’s continued blessings upon the country, President Tinubu and its citizens.
“Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!” he declared.
