Niger: 6 die in Kamuki – Fulani communal clash

Six people have reportedly been killed in a fresh communal clash between the Fulani and Kamuki people of Rafi local government of Niger state

The Fulanis were said to have launched fresh attacks on the Kamuki community on Wednesday to break a truce brokered by the Niger state government.

A villager who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that despite the intervention of the state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Fulanis have continued with their attacks on neighbouring community of Kamuki .

The Village Head of Tashan -Rimi, Alhaji Garba Mohammed Bissalla on Friday confirmed the fresh attacks while speaking to journalists on the plight of his people

He said, “Six people have been killed by the Fulani people who attacked Musa Bahago and his son, Hamisu Musa and others on Wednesday night around 1 pm. Since then the attacks have continued without abating”.

Bissalla said his people were surprised with the attacks as the leadership of kamuku tribe have adhere to the directives of the Governor by prevailing on subjects to stay in peace, adding that, “but from the other part of the fulanis they continue with their threat, killing and stealing our animals” .

According to the royal father, after two recent attacks on the Tashan Rimi claimed dozens of lives, Governor Mohammed Bago set up a reconciliatory committee insisting that the reconciliatory measures didn’t yield any fruitful results.

“The attacks have continued, dispute the measures the state, Local Government and Emirate council put in place after the two terrible attacks in the recent times.The steps did not yield any results as the killings continued because there is no concrete action by the committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the FULANI -KAMUKI crises.
” In fact, there is no law in force to prevent the escalation of the crisis and prevent further killings,” said.
