NIDCOM holds youth summit, mentor future leaders

In commemoration of the National Diaspora Day, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has held a robust youth summit at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, aimed at educating the younger generation on the essence of leadership, discipline, and responsible citizenship.

Schools across Abuja were in attendance and participated actively in the programme, including the panel discussion session.

In her opening remarks, Chairman/CEO, NIDCOM, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that the Youth Summit was designed to mentor young leaders and prepare them for the future.

She also provided a platform for two Nigerian returnees from South Africa, who were affected by xenophobic attacks, to share their experiences. She assured them that Nigeria, under the magnanimity of President Bola Tinubu,, remained committed to supporting them to achieve their dreams.

Delivering a remark, Group Managing Director, ARCO Group Plc, Engr. Alfred Okoigun, emphasized that every society must be intentional in developing knowledge and discipline. He commended NIDCOM for its Diaspora Doctors Digital Health Research initiative that has advanced telemedicine in Nigeria.

The panel discussion was moderated by Hon. Bobby Digi-Olisa, Youth Development Expert, Canvas Institute, New York, USA. It featured excellent resource persons focused on educating and inspiring the youth.

In an interview, Nigerian-American basketball star, Ejimofor Anosike, commended NIDCOM for the initiative. He spoke on various mentorship programs run by his foundation to impact lives. He also extended special appreciation to President Tinubu, and to Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who he doscribed as Mama Diaspora.

Also speaking, Consultant Public Health Physician and Lecturer, University of Abuja,

Dr. Aisha Attahiru, highlighted the positive impact of the Youth Summit on young Nigerians and commended the organizers for the initiative.

The summit featured a musical interlude by a 15-year-old saxophonist and the performance of the Diaspora Anthem*l by a 16-year-old Nigerian composer, which has been officially adopted by the Commission.

Participants also visited various exhibition stands where partners showcased their products and services. Dymcaremade a presentation on the health services it offers, among other exhibitors.

The event ended with a renewed commitment by NIDCOM to continue investing in youth development as a key driver of national progress.
