Ndigbo should be allowed to freely choose who they want to be their President - Archbishop Onaiyekan

Ahead of the 2027 Presidential election, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, says Ndigbos should not be cajoled to vote for any particular candidate but should be allowed to vote for any candidate they choose to vote for.

Onaiyekan said this on Thursday, September 24, while speaking to newsmen in Enugu state.

The cleric was asked to comment on the recent call by Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo for people in the region to vote, not based on emotion, but on the competence of the candidates contesting for the position. Soludo is backing the re-election of President Tinubu.

Responding to the question, Onaiyekan said

‘’I don’t know what Soludo has told Ndigbo but all I can say i that Ndigbo should be allowed to freely choose who should be their President and it is not the duty of Governors to tell people how they should vote. The governors will have their own votes. Every governor will vote for himself. Let others do. That is the only opportunity that we have ti express our mind”
