“I’m so pissed off” — Black American woman compares Nigeria’s infrastructure to Benin Republic

A Black American woman who said she has lived in Nigeria for the past three years has expressed frustration over the differences she observed between Nigeria and neighbouring Benin Republic during a recent vacation.

In a video shared online, the woman said she was unable to fully enjoy her trip because the experience had made her reflect on what she believes Nigeria could achieve.

She praised Benin Republic for its clean streets, organised environment, functioning systems and road infrastructure, adding that cameras are used to monitor speeding motorists.

According to her, she was particularly impressed that the level of organisation and accessibility extended beyond major cities and into rural areas.

She said the experience made her question whether some of Nigeria’s challenges were solely the result of infrastructure or accessibility issues.

“Everything that Benin has that is working, Nigeria could have,” she said, adding that she was frustrated by what she described as the contrast between the two countries.

The woman also praised the way she felt citizens were treated in Benin Republic and said the environment gave people a sense of dignity.

“Nigeria won’t even get 10% of this,” she said.

She concluded by saying the experience had left her “so sick” and frustrated rather than allowing her to fully enjoy her vacation.
