The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos state command, Wednesday, said it has busted an illegal factory in Badagry, Lagos state, where adulterated fruit juice branded as “Barkas Juice” was allegedly being produced.
It said two women aged 48 and 50 in connection with the operation were arrested.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Oluwaseun Abolurin, stated that the suspects were arrested following about five days of surveillance by operatives from the Badagry area command in collaboration with a Nigerian Army formation in the area.
Preliminary investigation, according to the NSCDC, showed that the product contained high level of sugar, water, colourants, dyes and additives, with no real fruit used in its production.
The corps said the juice was manufactured in a highly unhygienic environment and distributed to markets in Lagos, Benin City, Edo state, and other parts of the country.
