Israel Approves Massive Soldier Rehab System Overhaul

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his government had approved a huge overhaul of the rehabilitation system for wounded IDF soldiers and security personnel.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his government had approved a sweeping overhaul of the rehabilitation system provided to wounded IDF soldiers and security personnel.

The reform, he claims, will transform the Israeli Defense Ministry’s Rehabilitation Department by expanded staffing, funding and independence, while reducing bureaucracy, introducing artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies, for rehabilitation and mental health services.

It was announced that every wounded veteran would be assigned a dedicated case manager to coordinate treatment and benefits, eligibility procedures would be streamlined. In the overhauled system, family members will receive expanded psychological support, and a new automated system will proactively update veterans’ benefits.

“The plan we approved will provide them with a broad and comprehensive support system,” said Netanyahu. “Our wounded soldiers went into battle to defend the state, and we are fighting for them and for their rehabilitation. This is not only our moral duty, it is our national duty,” he added.

Netanyahu also thanked Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich for their efforts in coordinating this decision.

The decision comes after the Israeli Defense Ministry warned earlier this month that its rehabilitation system was at a risk of collapsing. According to the ministry, over 26,000 wounded IDF soldiers and security personnel had sought treatment since the war began, while roughly 65 percent of them were for psychological conditions. The total number of wounded veterans, as per the ministry, was expected to surpass 90,000 in 2026 and reach around 100,000 by 2028.
