The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tuesday said it would collaborate with security agencies in Nasarawa state to enforce campaign guidelines and electoral laws ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state,
Muhammed Abubakar, stated this during an Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Lafia.
He stated that the commission would collaborate with security agencies to ensure that political parties and candidates adhere strictly to campaign regulations towards ensuring a friendly and peaceful environment for all parties.
The commissioner said political campaigns must be issue-based and in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC regulations.
“We will not condone hate speech, incitement, political violence, and defacement of public property in accordance with the Constitution and Electoral Act,” he said.
The REC also stated that the credibility of the election depends on the environment in which it is conducted.
“Voters must feel safe to exercise their franchise and electoral personnel must be secured to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation,” he said.
He urged security agencies to be proactive in monitoring campaign activities and arrest violators, regardless of party affiliation.
