Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy, has revealed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo personally called him and urged him to support Peter Obi after he resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023 over the party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Speaking during an interview on Echoo Room on Friday, 17 July, 2026, Bwala recalled that his opposition to the APC’s presidential ticket led many supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as Obedients, to believe he would eventually join the former Anambra State governor’s campaign. According to him, that expectation was reinforced when Obasanjo reached out to him directly.

Recounting the conversation, Bwala said, “When I left him, everything I said on the media, my backers were the Obedients people because they felt he’s leaving because Christians might be marginalized.

There was only one Christian who is having the presidential ticket which is Peter Obi. So the natural assumption was that he will go to Peter Obi but that thought was then given life by the call I received from President Obasanjo to come and support Peter Obi. I knew I wasn’t a religious bigot. I didn’t take that offer, I ended up taking the offer by Atiku so I created eternal enemies out of the Obedients. GET FULL STORY HERE.
