The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to serve two terms in office without owning a personal house.

Aregbesola, who governed Osun State between 2010 and 2018, said he lived in a friend’s house throughout his eight-year administration, insisting he never acquired a private residence while in office.

Speaking in a video shared with supporters, the former Minister of Interior challenged anyone with contrary evidence to publicly identify any house belonging to him.

“I am the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own. I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my father’s land. If anyone says that is not true, let them come out and show Nigerians the house I own,” he said.

Aregbesola said his administration was driven by public service rather than personal enrichment, stressing that his focus while in office was to improve the welfare of the people.

He recalled that his government’s priorities included tackling poverty, reducing unemployment, improving access to quality education, promoting healthcare, and strengthening peace and community development across Osun State.

The remarks come amid renewed political engagements by the former governor, who now serves as the National Secretary of the ADC after parting ways with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His comments have since generated reactions on social media, with supporters describing the claim as a reflection of integrity, while critics have called for independent verification of the statement.
