Team Nigeria finished seventh in the final medal standings at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Competing across 10 sports, the Nigerian contingent delivered an impressive campaign, securing 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals to finish as the highest-ranked African nation at the Games.
Nigeria’s first gold medal came through Esther Nworgu, who produced a dominant display to win the women’s lightweight para powerlifting title.
Several other athletes also played key roles in the country’s successful outing.Ezekiel Nathaniel stormed to gold in the men’s 400m hurdles, while Goodness Nwachukwu broke her own world record on her way to winning the women’s F42 discus throw title.
Idris Rilwan claimed gold in the men’s para powerlifting event, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi etched his name into the history books by winning Nigeria’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in the men’s shot put.
Other standout performers included Samuel Ogazi, who won gold in the men’s 400m, Ruth Didih and Hauwa Lawal, who both struck gold in weightlifting, and Chukwuebuka Umoafia, who also topped the podium in the men’s weightlifting event.
Australia dominated the medal table, finishing first with 65 gold, 41 silver, and 52 bronze medals. England placed second with 26 gold, 41 silver, and 35 bronze medals, while Canada completed the top three after winning 18 gold, 20 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
