NUTGTWN mourns NLC General Secretary Ugboaja
The National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has expressed grief over the death of the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, describing his death as a great loss to the Nigerian labour movement.
Ugboaja reportedly died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
In a condolence statement signed by its President, Peters Godonu, and General Secretary, Ali Baba, the union described the late labour leader as a devoted and committed trade unionist who made significant contributions to workers’ rights and the development of the labour movement in Nigeria.
The union said his death had created an enormous void that would be difficult to fill.
“Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja was a devoted, dedicated and committed labour leader who made significant contributions to the advancement of workers’ rights, trade unionism and the labour movement in Nigeria,” the statement said.
NUTGTWN condoled with Ugboaja’s immediate family, the NLC leadership, Nigerian workers and the global labour movement over what it described as an irreparable loss.
The union prayed to God Almighty to grant the bereaved family, comrades, friends and associates the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
It also prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
“May the comradely soul of Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja rest in perfect peace,” the union said.
