Fire Breaks Out At An Oil Refinery In Western Iran, Cause Unknown | WATCH
A massive fire erupted at the Oxin Palayesh mini-refinery in Iran’s Lorestan province on Friday, sending thick black smoke into the sky.
A fire broke out on Friday at the Oxin Palayesh mini-refinery in Iran’s western Lorestan province, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky as firefighters struggled to contain the blaze.
According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, the fire began shortly after 5 PM local time and sent a column of dense smoke over parts of Poldokhtar. Videos shared on social media showed a huge fire at the refinery, with large plumes of black smoke rising into the sky over the region.
Firefighters, rescue teams, and heavy and light equipment were dispatched to the site. However, the scale of the fire and the presence of flammable materials made containment difficult, preventing crews from reaching the main seat of the blaze during the initial hours.
The semi-official Mehr news agency, citing the Lorestan deputy governor, reported that no deaths or injuries had been reported. Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Preliminary reports indicated the blaze likely started in the raw materials section of the industrial facility. Officials said possible negligence was being considered, but the exact cause could not be determined until the fire was fully extinguished.
