Equities market sustains decline profile, sheds N262bn

Traders on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) trading floor during session as domestic equities sheds N262bn

The domestic equities market on Friday sustained negative performance, declining by N262 billion as investors embarked on profit-taking activities.

This resulted in the market capitalisation of listed equities declining by 0.16 per cent to N162.842 trillion from N163.104 trillion recorded on Wednesday.

The NGX All Share Index declined by 413.40 basis points to 250808.27 points from 251211.67 points traded the previous day.

An analysis of the investment showed that TransExpress and AIICO led the gainers’ table with 10 per cent to close at N2.97 and N4.18 per unit; Live stocks Feed followed with a gain of 9.88 per cent to close at N8.90 per unit; Living Trust added 9.87 per cent to close at N3.45 per share; ABC Transport gained 9.63 per cent to close at N7.40 per unit.

Conversely, PZ Cusson topped the losers’ chart, dropping by 9.91 per cent to close at N66.40 per unit; Etranzact trailed with 9.84 per cent to close at N11.00 per unit; FTNCocoa declined by 8.19 to N7.62 per units; Royal Express down by 7.83 per cent to close at N1.06 per share.

The volume of trades went down by 480.85 million, representing 46.32 per cent as investors traded 557.15 million shares against 1.038 billion reported the previous day; the volume of transactions fell by 48.60 per cent to settle at N27.57 billion in 53450 deals.

Further analysis showed that transactions in the shares of Access Holdings Company led market activities with 183.563 million shares valued at N5.517 billion; Etranzact followed with 41.150 million shares worth N454.644 million; CMFC traded 38.528 million shares cost N179.316 million; Fidelity Bank exchanged 27.747 million shares worth N606.042 million; Chams Plc sold 26.279 million shares worth N82.193 million.
