EFCC declares former pension chief, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again declared Abdularasheed Maina, the former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, wanted in connection with allegations of receiving stolen property.

Dele Oyewale, the agency’s head of Media and Publicity, made the announcement through a wanted notice shared on the EFCC’s X account on Wednesday, September 23.

“The public is hereby informed that Abdularasheed Abdullahi Maina, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The commission has urged members of the public to assist in locating him if they have any information regarding his whereabouts.

Anyone with valuable information regarding his location should kindly contact the commission via its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja,” the notice read in part

Maina was previously declared wanted by the EFCC after he failed to attend his trial linked to an alleged N2 billion fraud involving the pension reform programme. He was subsequently arrested in the Niger Republic in 2019 and extradited to Nigeria to face charges.

In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina and sentenced him to eight years in prison for money laundering offences.

The Nigerian Correctional Service later revealed that Maina was released from custody on February 25, 2025, after serving part of his sentence. The service stated that his release was granted due to good conduct in prison and was in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
