Edo: Orogho indigenes reaffirm support for community leadership

The people of Orogho community have reaffirmed their confidence and support for its present leadership.

The people said the community leadership has brought a new phase of development and transformation to the area.

The affirmation was contained in a statement issued by Orogho Community Concerned Indigenes in reaction to allegations raised by one Mr. Stanley Eghaghe concerning the leadership, development and management of benefits accruing to the community from companies operating in the area.

The group, comprising elders, youths and concerned indigenes of Orogho at home and in the diaspora, said it remained comfortable with the present leadership and would continue to support initiatives aimed at advancing the interests of the community.

In the statement signed by Mr. Nosa Osayande, the Okaghele (Youth Leader) of Orogho community, and three others, the indigenes said the community had witnessed significant transformation under the present leadership, particularly when compared with the situation in the area two or three decades ago.

The group acknowledged, “Orogho still required additional infrastructure, employment opportunities, healthcare facilities, water supply and improved roads,” but maintained that the existence of such challenges did not amount to failure of leadership.

The indigenes challenged Eghaghe to provide concrete evidence if he had information regarding financial wrongdoing, diversion of community benefits or any other illegality, rather than making sweeping allegations through the media.

They further questioned Eghaghe’s authority to speak on behalf of Orogho, alleging that he was not a descendant of the community but from Owuo.
