Dry Cleaner Steals FCT Senator’s Jewellery, Sells It For N45.7m

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Dutse, Abuja on Friday remanded a dry cleaner, Abdul Mohammed, for allegedly stealing jewellery belonging to Senator Ireti Kingibe.

The police charged Mohammed, 52, with theft.

‎Magistrate Abdullahi Ilelah, gave the order, following a guilty plea entered by Mohammed.

The magistrate adjourned the matter until Sept. 21 for sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Adama Musa, told the court that the complainant, Sen. Kingibe, who resides in Zangon Daura Estate Kado, Abuja, reported the matter at the Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on June 27.‎

‎Musa told the court that Mohammed gained access to the complainant’s room, broke her jewellery box and stole gold bangles, necklaces, wristwatches and earrings.

‎‎During investigation, the police said, Mohammed confessed to the crime.

The police said that Mohammed said he sold the jewellery to Suleiman Isah and Isah Yusuf all of FCT , Abuja, for N45.7m.

‎Musa prayed the court to sentence Mohammed after his guilty plea, citing Section 112(8) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

‎‎‎‎Musa said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code Law.‎
