Delta: Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest 10 suspects, recover firearms

The Delta state Police command weekend said it has recorded fresh operational successes across the state, rescuing a kidnapped 60-year-old man, arresting 10 suspects and recovering a locally made firearm and quantities of suspected illicit drugs.

In a statement by the command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, the operations which were carried out separately in Agbor, Abbi and Oghara, followed intelligence gathering and swift responses by operatives of the command.

SP Edafe said that in Agbor, operatives of the Agbor Division, on rescued a 60-year-old kidnap victim at Alisime village after engaging his abductors in a shoot out.

He said: “The operation, conducted at about 6:00 p.m., followed an earlier report of the victim’s abduction. Police operatives, supported by forest guards and local security personnel, mobilised to the area and engaged the suspected kidnappers.

“The victim was rescued unharmed, while the kidnappers reportedly fled into the bush with suspected gunshot injuries.”

PPRO noted that a mobile phone and an ATM card were recovered from the scene, while the area was cordoned off as security operatives commenced a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation at Abbi, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU), Ozoro, arrested 10 suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout.

He  said  the raid, conducted at about 9:30 p.m. on the same day, followed credible intelligence concerning a wanted suspect in connection with an arson incident at Owhelogbo community in August.

“The operatives raided a brothel in Abbi where the wanted suspect was reportedly hiding.

“Seven females and three males were arrested during the operation and quantities of Tramadol, Swinol, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.”
