Customs seize N604.3m tramadol, PMS, spaghetti, others in Kwara

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Area Command, has intercepted smuggled goods including banned foreign parboiled rice, tramadol, spaghetti and vehicles seized across various locations in  Kwara state.

The service put the combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the intercepted items at N604.33 million

The seizures comprised 3,396 packets of 100mg Tramadol, 270 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 6,705 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 6,875 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), used clothing and two high-value vehicles.

Beyond enforcement of the anti -smuggling law, the Kwara Area command also generated N7,978,338,031.21 in revenue during the third quarter of the year 2026.

The acting area controller of the command, Deputy Comptroller Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi, stated this Thursday at a press briefing held at the command’s office in Ilorin.

He said the command would not allow the state to become a safe haven or transit route for smuggling activities.

He stated further that the seizures were made through actionable intelligence, sustained patrols and collaboration with other security agencies.

 “The Kwara Command would never become a safe haven or transit corridor for illicit cross-border trade. That stance remains uncompromising,” Ogundeyi said.

FUTIA VC seeks nationwide support for JAMB, backs Aina’s leadership

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel, has called for sustained support from stakeholders across Nigeria to strengthen the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Professor Daniel made the call while commending the JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Segun Aina, for choosing Akwa, Ibom state, to host the Board’s Management and Information Technology (IT) retreat.

The FUTIA vice chancellor, who is also JAMB’s Chief External Examiner (CEE) in Akwa Ibom for 2026, spoke in his message at the opening ceremony of the retreat at Ikot Ekpene.

Daniel described the choice of Akwa Ibom for the strategic meeting as significant, saying the retreat offered the new JAMB leadership and other stakeholders an opportunity to review the Board’s performance, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for a successful new examination cycle.

He congratulated Aina on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Registrar/CEO of JAMB and his subsequent assumption of office, describing the development as an opportunity for the board to build on its existing institutional gains.

The vice chancellor, on behalf of the management, staff and students of FUTIA, as well as JAMB’s state coordinator in Uyo, Mrs Grace Olima-William; Technical Adviser, Professor Uyi Ekong; Peace Monitor, Professor Comfort Ekpo; and other JAMB personnel in the state, expressed confidence in the new administration.
