China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has deployed heavy-duty equipment and personnel to assist in the rescue of victims trapped in a collapsed building at Ogbalu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.
The intervention by the Chinese infrastructure company came as emergency responders intensified efforts to locate and rescue persons believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
CCCC Project Manager, Jin Haibing, who spoke with journalists after the operation, disclosed that four people had so far been rescued from the collapsed structure.
Haibing said the company mobilised excavators, loaders and other equipment to the scene to support the rescue operation, clear the debris and facilitate access to areas where victims could be trapped.
He said CCCC considered it necessary to respond to the emergency by deploying its equipment and technical personnel to complement the efforts of other agencies involved in the rescue operation.
According to him, the company’s swift response was driven by concern for the safety and welfare of residents in communities where it operates.
Haibing said the intervention also reflected the broader cooperation between Nigeria and China, noting that CCCC had maintained a long-standing presence in Nigeria through its involvement in major infrastructure projects.
He said the company would continue to work with relevant stakeholders and communities in Nigeria, adding that practical interventions such as the rescue effort could further strengthen cooperation and people-to-people relations between both countries.
