'Bibi Made Promises That Didn't Come True': Trump's Team Miffied With Netanyahu After Iran War?

US officials have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Netanyahu’s unfulfilled assurances about the Iran war’s progress.

Fresh cracks have emerged between the Trump administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the Iran conflict, with senior US officials privately expressing frustration over what they describe as a series of “unfulfilled assurances” from the Israeli leader during the war. According to a senior Trump administration official, Netanyahu repeatedly made optimistic predictions about the course of the conflict that ultimately failed to materialise.

“Bibi made a bunch of promises about the Iran war that didn’t come to pass. But what can we do? He’ll come. He’ll make his promises and then we’ll have to check everything out,” the official said, according to a report by Axios.

The remarks suggest that while Washington and Jerusalem remain close allies, the Trump administration has become increasingly cautious about accepting Netanyahu’s assessments and policy requests at face value. Officials are now said to be independently verifying Israeli claims even as the two sides continue to coordinate on regional security and efforts to secure a broader truce, according to the report.

The renewed tensions come as Netanyahu presses President Donald Trump on several key regional issues, among which is a request for the US to help counter Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s growing influence in the Middle East and to avoid supplying advanced weapons systems that could significantly modernise Turkey’s air force.

According to the Axios report, the two leaders spoke by phone last Friday, during which Netanyahu voiced frustration over Erdogan’s increasingly harsh statements about Israel. He used the call to push Trump to hold back on any arms sales that could help Turkey upgrade its military aircraft capabilities.

Trump departed for Turkey on Monday, where beyond the formal NATO proceedings, he’s expected to discuss a 700 million dollar agreement to provide new jet engines for the Turkish air force.
