Bandits Flee With Gunsh^t Wounds as Police Repel Attack in Sokoto
Suspected bandits sustained gunsh^t wounds and fled into the bush after police and other security operatives successfully repelled an armed attack on Tauma Village in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, when heavily armed bandits invaded the community. Residents raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from the Sokoto State Police Command.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, the Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilized tactical teams, including officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU). The teams engaged the attackers in a gun duel, forcing the bandits to retreat into the surrounding forest.
During a subsequent search of the area and escape routes, police recovered five rifle magazines loaded with 40 rounds of live ammunition abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The Sokoto State Police Command described the operation as a major success, emphasizing that no residents or security personnel were killed or injured in the exchange.
In the aftermath, police have intensified confidence-building patrols in Tauma Village and neighboring communities to restore calm and deter further attacks. Neighboring police divisions have also been placed on high alert to watch for individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds or attempting to hide in their jurisdictions.
The Command urged healthcare workers, community leaders, and the public to remain vigilant and immediately report anyone with suspicious injuries or unusual movements to the nearest police station or security agency.
