APC sweeps 17 chairmanship seats in Yobe LG elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats in the just-concluded Local Government Area (LGA) elections in Yobe state, the State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) has declared.

Announcing the results at the YOSIEC headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital, YOSIEC Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammad Yabani, described the conduct of the election as “hitch-free.”

According to the chairman, elections were successfully conducted across all 178 electoral wards and 17 LGAs in the state on Saturday September 26, 2026.

He disclosed that a total of 10 political parties participated in the democratic exercise, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions across the 17 LGAs as well as the councillorship seats across the 178 wards.

“This robust participation reflects how keenly contested the elections were in several local government areas in the state,” Yabani said.

Following the close of polls earlier on Saturday, votes were counted and collated, with results for the Councillors declared at the ward levels and those for the Chairmen declared at the respective Local Government collation centres.

“In line with the powers vested in the Commission, I shall now proceed to present the official summary of the scores obtained by the respective chairmanship candidates across the seventeen (17) Local Government Councils,” he stated.

In a notable exception to the APC’s dominance, two councillorship seats were won by opposition parties – APP and ADP in Fune and Karasuwa LGAs, respectively.
