A renowned political analyst, Prof. Abubakar Ahmad Abdullahi, Monday, raised the alarm over what he described as a political tsunami that has hit the Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Abdulaziz Yari and Governor Dauda Lawal may lose Zamfara in the 2027 general elections.

Abdullahi issued the statement in Gusau, following the shocking resignation of eight serving members of the Zamfara state House of Assembly from the APC.

He said the lawmakers in separate letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen announced their exit from the ruling party the same platform through which they once sustained strong opposition against Governor Dauda Lawal while he was in the PDP.

The analyst described the resignation of the lawmakers as a major embarrassment to political leaders of the state, particularly the director-general of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and a clear indication that all is not well in the APC.

“The party that is currently boasting of returning overwhelming votes for President Tinubu and Governor Lawal in 2027 is sitting on a keg of gunpowder,” he stated.

Prof. Abdullahi blamed Governor Lawal for most of the negative political developments in the state, saying by virtue of his office he is the leader with full executive powers.

He said right from the time the crisis broke in the House of Assembly, the governor needed to call for calm and understanding but instead fuelled it for his own benefit and the aggrieved members were completely ignored and denied any form of reconciliation.

“It would have been expected that when the governor defected from the PDP to the APC early this year, the crises in the assembly would be addressed and resolved, but none of the leaders cared,” he said.

The political analyst also took a swipe at Senator Yari, saying citizens may not be happy with the way Yari goes around like a demi-god as DG of the PCC and are silently waiting for the right time to put him in his right place.
