AIPAC Cuts Online Donations to Democrats Who Voted to Slash Israel Aid

AIPAC’s political action committee has removed online donation buttons for more than a dozen House Democrats after they voted for an amendment to cut US aid to Israel.

AIPAC’s political fundraising arm is scaling back online donation support for House Democrats who backed a measure to reduce US aid to Israel this week, marking another sign of strain between the party and the pro-Israel advocacy group.

This week, an online portal run by AIPAC’s political action committee removed donation buttons for more than a dozen House Democrats. Those buttons had previously appeared on a page listing lawmakers described as standing with Israel, as per a report from Politico.

Among the members now missing donation buttons are Rep. Katherine Clark of Massachusetts, who serves as the No. 2 Democrat in the House, Rep. Joe Neguse of Colorado, who also holds a leadership position, and Rep. Pat Ryan of New York, who had already publicly rejected AIPAC funding following the vote.

AIPAC spokesperson Deryn Sousa addressed the change in a statement to Politico, saying the organization’s members appreciate representatives who stand firm on principle and are disappointed in those who don’t.

Evidence from an Internet Archive snapshot shows the donation buttons were still functioning as recently as July 6, according to the report. At that time, the portal also featured a note thanking former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California for her support of the relationship between the US and Israel, mentioning that she is not seeking reelection.

By Friday, that message of thanks had vanished from the site, along with a similar acknowledgment for Pelosi’s fellow California Democrat, Rep. Julia Brownley.

Many Democrats who voted in favor pointed to growing frustration with how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has handled the war in Gaza. In the end, the amendment did not pass. It was blocked by 98 Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, who voted against it.
