AIG Zone 2 Jimoh honoured for crime-fighting strategies

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, has been honoured as the Most Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025, in recognition of the innovative crime prevention strategies he introduced during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos state.

The prestigious award, conferred by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network, was presented at the 19th African Security Watch Awards held in Banjul, The Gambia as the senior police officer was unable to attend the ceremony due to official engagements.

The award was later presented to him at his Lagos office by the organisation’s International Coordinator, Patrick Apambu, and national coordinator, Elizabeth Ndanku.

Receiving the award, Jimoh dedicated the honour to the officers and men who served with him, describing it as recognition of teamwork, professionalism and unwavering commitment to public safety rather than a personal achievement.

He attributed the success recorded in Lagos to proactive policing initiatives, particularly the establishment of the Eko Strike Force, a special intervention unit that expanded from an initial fleet of two patrol vehicles to more than 18 operational vehicles.

He said the team complemented the operations of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), significantly improving the police’s ability to respond swiftly to security threats across the state.

The AIG also highlighted community policing as a key pillar of his crime-fighting strategy, noting that the cooperation of Lagos residents greatly enhanced intelligence gathering and effective policing.

Reflecting on his tenure, Jimoh recalled that the local government elections conducted across the state’s 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) were peaceful, with no reported cases of ballot box snatching or attacks on voters.

He added that the constitutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force goes beyond enforcing the law to safeguarding lives and property, assuring Nigerians of his continued commitment to tackling crime and strengthening public confidence in policing.

Presenting the award, International Coordinator of the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network, Patrick Apambu, described Jimoh as a disciplined, experienced and result-oriented police officer whose career has been marked by professionalism and excellence.
