Adeleke Demands Release of Arrested Osun PDP Chairman
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has strongly condemned the arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, and called for his immediate release.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the arrest as an attempt to intimidate his supporters during the ongoing Osun governorship election.
According to the statement, Bisi was picked up at his residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from voting and taken to an undisclosed location without explanation.
The governor alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC), working with compromised security agents, was trying to restrict PDP members from monitoring the collation of election results.
He warned that such actions amounted to an attack on democracy.“This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” Adeleke said.
He urged security agencies not to allow state institutions to be used to interfere with the electoral process, insisting that elections must reflect the free will of the people.
Adeleke demanded the immediate release of Bisi and other persons he described as political prisoners across Osun State.“Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force,” he added.
