2027 polls: Group endorses Mbah, calls for sustained good governance

A pro-Peter Mbah group in Enugu state, Progressives Erstwhile Ward Executives, (PEWEX), has endorsed the governor for another term in office, come 2027.

The former wards executives under the banner of PEWEX, made the endorsement in a grand endorsement ceremony that took place at the ALGON office, Enugu on Wednesday.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the endorsement, the Coordinating Chairman of PEWEX, Ozo Ejike Okpe said apart from the many development projects Governor Mbah was embarking on, the governorship zoning arrangement existing since 1999 among the three senatorial zones, should be maintained.

He, therefore, said Mbah should be allowed to complete eight years in office like his predecessors.

“Enugu state is observing zoning since 1999 starting from former governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

“All of them did eight years in office and this time around, we shall maintain that rotation. This is because when Mbah completes his two terms, it will move to Enugu West,” he said.

Chairman of the occasion and former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dan Shere, said Mbah deserved to serve two tenures because he had performed creditably in the past three years.

Shere said what Mbah had done could not be forgotten in the next 200 years and should be allowed to continue to maintain and sustain the momentum of good governance and even development going on in various parts of the state.

“I don’t think we shall be tired of talking about what Mbah has done in the next 200 years, in terms of Smart Schools and others. There is no where there is no presence of the government.

“There were wards that had never had the presence of government but with Mbah, every ward has seen the presence of governance,” he said and implored PEWEX to ensure that they campaigned vigorously for Mbah’s re-election.

The APC chairmanship candidate for Nkanu East local government area in the September council election, Engineer Mike Ogbuekwe, described PEWEX as a formidable group that had been making electioneering possible and promised to recognise them when voted in to office.

Ogbuekwe, however, urged the group to make sure that they galvanised their members to campaign for Mbah’s re-election to continue with his good works.

Speaking on the theme of the endorsement rally, “Sustaining the Momentum of Good Governance and Inclusive Development in Enugu State,” the keynote speaker, Prof. Damian Opata, said Mbah should be allowed to complete his second term as a performing governor, to sustain the tempo of good governance.

Opata urged PEWEX members not to feel neglected or marginalised in appointments but to take solace in the fact that everybody was benefiting from Mbah’s administration.
