2027 elections: Tinubu’s challengers – Atiku, Obi can’t do better – Datti Ahmed

Former Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said those challenging President Bola Tinubu can’t perform better if voted into power.
He carpeted the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, saying both politicians can’t make any difference or improve Nigeria.
He stated this while responding to a question on what advice he would give Tinubu about his leadership of the country during an interview on the Mic On Podcast, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye and posted Saturday.
Baba-Ahmed warned Tinubu against handing over to any of the politicians currently challenging him noting: “I will simply advise uncle (Tinubu) to please prepare to hand over and move away, but not to the people contesting against him because none of them will improve Nigeria,” he said.
When asked to clarify whether he was referring to all the opposition candidates, Baba-Ahmed said, “None of that part. Tinubu should leave the stage. All those people were contesting against him, too. They were all in bed together at some point or another.”
When the host asked whether he was referring to Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed replied, “Including Peter Obi, I’m sorry to say.”
The duo, it can be recalled, were the Labour Party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively in the 2023 election. Baba-Ahmed subsequently left the Labour Party for the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).
Obi, he said, had previously been a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while it was the ruling party, arguing that he was calling for “a whole new Nigeria.”
“Tell me about one politician who has never been in a ruling party. Tell me,” he said.
When he was reminded that he had also been involved in politics and had served in the National Assembly, the former lawmaker said he had never belonged to a ruling party.
